To get started, you'll need to either download a ringtone or notification sound directly to your Android device, or transfer one from a computer to your device's internal storage. MP3, M4A, WAV, and OGG formats are all natively supported by Android, so practically any audio file you could download will work.
I installed Go SMS Pro and Chomp SMS because I thought it would be cute to have the same emoticons that I was missing from my iPhone 4S.
I didn't like the way it looked, so I uninstalled and restarted my phone. Now, I don't get sound on any incoming texts, while everything else has sound. I went to General Settings and checked that everything is properly marked. I went into the message icon and checked the settings there as well—everything is properly marked. There is no mute icon in the top bar.
This is the weird part. When I go into General Settings > Sound > Volume > Notifications and change the tone, I hear it. When I change the settings through the message icon, I do not hear the tones..... help!
Is this a good question?

I also have had this issue with my J3 for months and just took the time to figure it out. Like the above I had the notifications on in messages. I discovered through Facebook messenger my notifications were off. I clicked and it took me to phone setting for notifications. All were turned off, surely something I did at some point. Anyway I went through and changed all apps that I did want notifications from and that solved receiving sounds for FB,messenger, emails etc.
